INTRODUCTION

I guess my first order of business is to explain my blog title. My real name is Stephen or Steve but some of my Friends call me Wishbone. I don't remember who started it but it stuck. Honestly, I kind of like it. This name was bestowed upon me my senior year in college due to my obsession with wishbones. Let me explain... at the time I was pursuing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture; I became interested in the Mythology and the history behind the ritual of breaking the wishbone. The act of breaking the bone, wishing or "praying" for a little favor, and than having "faith" that your favor would somehow be heard by someone or something "out there" eerily reminded me of my Catholic upbringing, not to mention the fact that the wishbone has three points just like the Christian Trinity. The fact that I grew up on a farm with chickens and participated in this ritual many times as a kid only added to its power; besides, have you ever REALLY looked at a wishbone up close? They're breathtakingly beautiful perfectly engineered minature sculptures! the way the bone gently curves as it moves from the toe of one leg up to the center and continues down to the other toe. All of this led up to the perfect storm and from there it became my obsession and ultimately the main focus of my BFA thesis. From then on I became known as Wishbone by my fellow artist inmates. WOW! I just realized that this story sounds like the making of a comic book superhero/villain. I guess the choice is mine... do I use the power of the wishbone for the good of humanity or do I use it for evil!? Not so easy being an artist is it!!? So now you know the story behind the name. In the coming months I would like to use this blog as a sketchbook to record some of my past and present thoughts, adventures, and discoveries on my jouney as an artist. You're all welcome to follow along!
