This beautiful collage was made by my girlfriend Amy-Marie. She has an intuitive Jackson Pollack like way of throwing materials together and creating a masterpiece, she makes it look so easy! The great thing about this piece is that all the materials were edible. She used radishes, yams, turnips, parsnips, jicama, parsley, olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. The collage was created in a rectangular glass "frame" and then baked in a kiln to help bring the flavors together. What I liked most about this particular piece was that it addressed all five senses: sight (the beautiful colors and shapes), hearing (the sounds made from baking and eating), touch (the different textures of each vege), smell (the glorious scent coming from the oven) and last but not least, taste (each vege had it's own unique flavor) it was almost to beautiful to destroy...notice I said ALMOST! The great thing about ephemeral art, and life, is that it's not meant to last forever, it has to be enjoyed in the moment...and OHHH--what a moment that was!
