Hmmmm.... Is this ART? Part 2

I found this "painting" on the floor of my studio, it was being used to cover a pipe hole in the floor.   There was a painter in the studio before me and from the looks of it, it was used as a "cleaner/backer" board.   I place it in my "Hmmmm.... Is this ART?" category.

A Sunday thought

My six year old nephew asked my brother, "Dad... are stones alive?" That question says so much about the way a child thinks. Children believe anything is possible until they are told or taught otherwise.    Sadly, it occurred to me that we seem to digress from infinite possibilities to finite possibilities as we get older.  

A Love Story

I wasn't necessarily looking for a relationship but you know how that goes, it always seems to find you when you least expect it.  It was a Sunday afternoon; I was at the antique mall treasure hunting.   I had just rounded aisle eight, was minding my own business, heading down aisle nine when out of the corner of my eye I saw a vinyl clad beauty sitting proudly in front of her tiny white pegboard cubicle.  There was an instant spark and I could tell it was mutual by the way she teasingly swiveled as she tilted her body back ever so slightly.   She was stylish and bold, classy... but not too classy, I could tell she wasn't afraid to get a little dirty, her arms were thin yet perfectly proportioned with the rest of her body, she had a great "seat" on her if you know what i mean???  On top of that, she had a great pair of legs!  I'll admit I was more then a little intrigued but I knew that in order for this relationship to work there had to be more then just looks.   We had to connect intellectually, emotionally and most importantly we had to connect physically, that's just the way it had to be... those were my rules.   I walked over and sat down... we rocked, we swiveled, we felt each other up... it was good, actually it was really good!   Nevertheless; I wasn't ready to commit quite yet so I said my goodbyes and left.   Of course I knew that we might go our separate ways and never see each other again but it was a risk I was willing to take.   I figured if we were meant to be together then it would work out and if not... then so be it.   A week went by... then two... the whole time I was thinking about that day we spent together, the rocking, the swiveling, the feeling up.   I knew I would regret it if I let her go, so I jumped in my car and raced over to the antique mall.   As I made my way to the corner of eighth and nine, I reminded myself once again that if it was meant to be it would be and if not, if by chance someone else had come along and swept her off her feet, then I would be OK with that... it happens.   I braced myself for the worst as I made my way towards aisle nine.   As I turned the corner, my heart in my throat, I instantly breathed a sigh of relief when I saw her sitting exactly where I had left her two weeks earlier...clearly it was meant to be!  I swopped her off her feet with one arm under her legs and the other cradling her back, I carried her up aisle nine out the door into my waiting car and off we sped to our brand new place downtown at the corner of Jefferson and Superior streets.

My New Studio!!

Well it's about time!  I've dilly dallied long enough.   This is my new 1300 sqft. studio on the 5th floor of the Secor Building downtown Toledo.   The minute i saw it I knew I had to have it.   The light from the North side windows is amazing!  The views aren't to bad either.   The new Hockey arena is on one side of the building, the Mud Hens stadium is on the other ( I can even catch the game if I lean out the window) and the old Commodore Perry Hotel is across the street.   The studio will also come in handy this summer when we begin working on the "Re-surgence" sculpture at the new arena.   This year will be a "test" for me to see how this "art thing" goes.   I want to get involved in the art scene here in Toledo and see if I have what it takes.   I think it's going to be a great year!  It'll be nice to actually have a space to work.   My plan is to section the space off into two or three areas.   One area will be for displaying,storing and photographing work,  another for drawing, painting, lounging, etc. and a large space for 3-D work (wood, wax, plaster, etc.)   I can't wait to start moving in!
