new piece
This piece lives in my studio right now. I found the old baby food jars at the antique store. There was probably forty of them in an old cardboard box. The minute I saw them the gears in my head started spinning! All the jar lids have three small "air" holes punched in them which makes me think they were used to collect fireflys or some sort of insect. The fancy scroll piece was a dumpster diving find. I think it was used as a retail merchandise rack. I decided to combine the two and see what I could come up with. While I was hanging it, the jars were bobbing and swinging just like fireflys dancing in the night. I love the shadows on the wall! The original idea was to place an LED light in each jar so it looked like a bunch of jars with fireflys in them. I might still do that, not sure though.

lovely piece.
ReplyDeletewhere does this live? was it just temporary? I'd love to see how the reflections & shadows dance in different patterns throughout the day, depending on where the sun is in the sky.
do you remember that artist you showed me several years ago whose artwork was based on the shadows trees through windows? it was so subtle, and took up an entire room. just a different shade of paint on the wall & floor. ???
miss you.
Hey Beth!
ReplyDeleteWell it lives in my studio right now, I'm still trying to decide whether to do something more with it or leave it as is. I had originally thought about placing little LED lights in each jar to look like fireflys, not sure though... Yeah I really like the shadows and I do remember that artist, not the name but the work. I bought the jars at an antique store, I have about forty of them and they all have three small "air" holes punched in each top... they must have been used to collect bugs, and the hanging piece was a dumpster diving find. I miss you too, we'll talk soon!
